The Chair Pedro Poveda (CPP), was created July 28, 2000 through an agreement between the Pontifical University of Salamanca (UPSA) and the Teresian Association (T.A.). Both institutions promote and co-direct its activities. It is connected to the Theology Department but its activities can be carried out in other campuses of this University, located in Madrid and other cities of Spain.
As the signed agreement states, the CPP has as its objectives ” to promote the study of Pedro Poveda and of his writings as well as research, teaching and knowledge of two topics that centered great part of his involvement: priestly ministry and dialogue between faith and modern culture.
The CPP began its activities in 2001.
Directing the Chair are: Dr. Gonzalo Tejerina, Dean of the Theology Department, who represents the University and Dr. Cira Morano, research staff at the CSIC, who represents the T.A.. There is Management Commission formed by T.A. representatives: Professors: Cira Morano, Consuelo Gámez, Mª Isabel Martínez Santamaría, Guadalupe Pedrero, Mª Jose Rivera y Teresa Sánchez Suñé.
Each institution tries to foster the objectives that are more closely related to its identity and goals.
On the part of the T.A., the CPP has received from Poveda the legacy of a constant concern for making an impact in society, especially through science and culture and of being concerned with issues that require reflection from the viewpoint of science. And a legacy, as well, of addressing issues of education, so that people may build a more human, free and just society and one where the religious dimension is not ignored.
The above-mentioned T.A. commission does the regular management of the CPP from Madrid.
