Each year at the Theology Faculty of the UPSA of Salamanca, the Chair of Pedro Poveda holds an Academic Course recognized as a “free elective course”.
The teachers are prestigious professors of various universities in Spain. It has an interdisciplinary character.
Students from all faculties and Centres of UPSA in Salamanca, Madrid and other cities may participate. Each course ends with a public lecture open to anyone interested in the topic.
The two sponsoring entities (UPSA and T.A.) alternate responsibilities in selecting and organizing the topic for the course or for the public lecture.
The topics selected for the courses are those of interest for university students and those apt to contribute to their formation, within the objectives of the CPP Chair.
Thus the topics selected have to do with the deepening into religious thought, and others related to science, faith and a new humanism in today’s society.
The CPP and its objectives as well as the person of Pedro Poveda are presented to the students at the beginning of each course. All the courses and conferences are funded by the Teresian Association and are held at the University premises.
Some 100 students attend the courses each year. About 150 people attend the final conference. The students attending are usually people involved in the formation of others.
The general impact of these courses in the city of Salamanca is high, and it includes coverage in the mass media. The courses and other activities are given coverage in the Web Page of the sponsoring entities as well as in the Web Page of the Metanexus Institute of Philadelfia of which the CPP forms part and where the CPP receives publicity through its List Server of more than 200 organizations network in 2006.
