Santa Maria de los Negrales

It is the resting place of Saint Pedro Poveda, and of his first collaborator the Servant of God Josefa Segovia.

It is a space dedicated to freedom, to dialogue, to unity; a place full of light, life and energy that invites people to serene contemplation.

As he planned the remodelling and expansion of the old construction, the architect Diego Escario decided to project light and spiritual energy from inside out. To do so, he had to brake open the walls of the building were the remains of San Pedro Poveda and Josefa Segovia are resting, and to project that light of the crypt and of the chapel towards the Central Campus, symbol of the future.

But he intended even more. He wanted the three new pavilions, constructed in front of the first residence of 1946 and close to the second building of “Las Torres” (1968), to surround a “central campus” as a space “where the peace and quiet of its design may invite to have a walk, to relate with others, to pray”.

THE ANCESTRAL HOME
Roots

The ground floor holds the chapel with the relics of Saint Pedro Poveda and the crypt with remains of the Servant of God Josefa Segovia. Close to the chapel is the area called Alameda, where significant objects of Pedro Poveda and of Josefa are displayed, together with illustrations of the life and mission of the Teresian Association.

This building, remodelled in 2006, is also a residential building with a total of 18 bedrooms in two floors. It dates from 1946, when Conchita Sanchís donated the land and the construction project began, with the support of bishop Casimiro Morcillo.

LAS TORRES
Study and innovation

This building displays an angular architecture that is daring and futuristic, with geometric lines that climb to the height in a diversity of shapes and colours. Built in 1968, it has 52 individual bedrooms conceived ideally as a place for study.

NEW PAVILLIONS
Full of light

The two new buildings  are  equipped with the latest technological advances and hold 20 double bedrooms and 40 single bedrooms respectively, a library and several offices. They offer a warm atmosphere and a space that is intercommunicated and functional

AUDITORIUM OF THE CULTURES

A space for gatherings

Simple and sober it offers a possibility of encounter for  large groups. It has a capacity for 300 people seated and the back wall opens into the garden to allow for larger celebrations. It has been build making use of the latest technological advances and  it has all that is needed for simultaneous translation.

MORE THAN A SYMBOLIC PLACE

Santa Maria de los Negrales is the meeting place of all those who share the dream of Poveda and want to build a more human and just world. It is also a place where the mission and spirituality of the Teresian Association receive nourishment and find expression.

It is situated 40 km northwest of Madrid and is easily accessed through the highway A-6 to La Coruña, just past Villalba. Buses leave from Moncloa and trains from Atocha or Nuevos Ministerios.
