The celebration of the feast of St. Pedro Poveda had a special flavor for the parishioners, friends, and members of the Teresian Association at Our Lady of Fatima Parish (OLFP) -Mandaluyong (Philippines). Within the celebration of the Eucharist, presided by Fr. Carlos “Caloy” Reyes, was the unveiling and blessing of St. Pedro Poveda’s portrait that is mounted on the wall of the Church.
In his homily, Fr. Caloy shared how he got to know St. Pedro Poveda as a newly-ordained priest assigned to the EDSA Shrine. He ministered to members of Poveda’s group in the celebration of the Eucharist and as confessor. Fr. Caloy’s esteem for Poveda’s charism stems from his conviction that faith is compatible with knowledge and science and that lay people can live fully their discipleship wherever they have their families, where they work and how they live.
Aside from the unveiling of the portrait of St. Pedro Poveda which followed the homily, Fr. Caloy announced that the Parish Pastoral Council Hall will be renamed “Pedro Poveda Conference Room” (PPC). After the Mass and messages of welcome and thanks from the Parish and POVEDA College, a simple agape meal was shared followed by the viewing of the movie POVEDA.
In attendance were administrators of POVEDA College led by its President Dr. Azucena L. Camagan, other members of the Teresian Association, officers of the Parish Pastoral Council, Elisa Giambelluca Education Assistance Program grantees and alumni, Talaban (a component of POVEDA’s Social Action Program) volunteers led by Ms. Rosella Saribay and partner families, and the regular Mass- goers.
