On Jan. 29-Feb 2, 2018, at the UN headquarters in NY. Maite Uribe, President of the Teresian Association and Emma Melgarejo, member of the Governing Council, attended the 56th session of the ECOSOC Commission for Social Development to achieve sustainable development for all. It focused on challenges and opportunities for social policy to eradicate poverty of the following social groups: the elderly, the persons with disabilities and the youth.
A moment in time February 14, 2018, has sparked a movement, 20,000+ gathered in Parkland “ the soul of the marches” as it has been called. The place where the shootings that took the lives of 17 students from Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School took place.
Following the shooting of 17 people in a high school of South Florida, young people filled the streets of many cities in the US on March 24 to ask for safety in the schools and to demand more strict gun control legislation. The Teresian Association joined then in several cities too.
