In the introduction, Maite Uribe states: “With this letter the cycle set out by the 17th General Assembly for this annual communication will conclude. We have considered the different themes proposed by the Assembly over the last six years: justice, prayer, study, trust and courage.”
These themes have been benchmarks on our evangelical and evangelizing journey and we have allowed ourselves to be challenged by the search for meaning and the desires of our contemporaries for more humanity in a world that is changing very rapidly. In this same world, the action of the Spirit can be perceived, awakening a deep desire for interior life, for spiritual experience, respect for cultural and religious differences, and the identities of person, cultures and peoples.
“We are closing this six-year term with an attitude that will accompany us throughout 2018, gratitude, as an invitation to look at the experience lived in these years, to commit ourselves to the present and to look to the future.
With gratitude we will prepare for and experience an important event for every person who is inspired by the charism of Pedro Poveda: the International Assemblies planned for 2018,” says Maite Uribe.
The text is organized in three sections: Gratitude, the other face of gift; Living in the present with passion; Looking to the future with hope. Y es una invitación a reflexionar, compartir, orar, vivir, a los largo de un año en clave de gratitud y de experiencia de gratuidad. And it is an invitation to reflect, share, pray, live, for a year in with the perspective of gratitude.
“The capacity for wonder is within us and we can experience and develop it side by side with our questionings and searching. The very fact of living and giving life, loving and being loved, forgiving and being forgiven is, and this is how we experience it, a constant wonder and a source of meaning, of fascination and deep joy.”
“Gratitude means recognizing God’s faithfulness in our own history, his presence always discreet and at the same time fascinating, because it is the presence of a love that cares for, heals, forgives, encourages, accompanies, takes us by the hand without rushing us, but with the certainty of feeling a touch that makes us always look forward."
"Gratitude is to take up the past and move towards the future…”
The 2018 theme, offered to everyone who feels attracted to the charism of Saint Pedro Poveda is:
Lord, you have done great things for us!
Send us your Spirit of joy and hope.
